If you need a refill for your animal's ongoing medication, please call our
clinic a few days before you run out. The reception staff will ask your name and
phone number, the animal's name, the name of the medication, the current dosage,
and how your animal has been feeling on his current dosage. While speaking with
you, the receptionist will access your file on the computer to verify the
medication needed and other relevant information. Please remember that the
doctor must authorize all refills. If your animal has not been seen for some
time, you may be asked to make an appointment to retest your pet before
additional medication can be dispensed. The doctor will examine your pet,
consult with you, and may recommend lab tests to determine if your pet needs to
remain on the medication, if a change in dosage is needed, or if a change in
medication is warranted.
If your animal has been seen recently, or receives certain ongoing
medications, a simple phone call may be all that's needed. By calling ahead, our
staff can have your pet's medication ready when you arrive and provide the most
appropriate care for your pet. Sometimes, a client will drop in and ask for a
refill while they wait. While our staff works very hard to accommodate all
client requests, there are times when the doctor is not available to authorize a
refill. The veterinarian may be in surgery, with another client or animal, or
out of the clinic on a farm call. In that case, the staff will forward your
request to the doctor and call you when the refill has been authorized and is
ready to be picked up. On occasion, this process may take a day or so. Please
try to plan ahead to keep your pet healthy and happy.
